Overview

Navigating the Portal

How to use the sidebar navigation, tabs, filters, and date selectors to explore data across all modules.

Sidebar Navigation

The left sidebar organises all modules into two main sections:

  • Early Warning — Real-time and short-term indicators: rainfall forecasts, temperature, vegetation, displacement, malnutrition, food prices, and currency.
  • Periodic Analysis — Observed and historical datasets: observed rainfall, crop yield, malnutrition burden, and acute food insecurity.

Click any menu item to navigate. Items with a downward arrow have sub-menus that expand when clicked.

View Tabs

Most data pages offer multiple view tabs at the top of the content area:

  • Map — Spatial choropleth or point map, usually powered by Leaflet.js.
  • Table — Tabular view of the data with sorting and filtering.
  • Chart — Time-series or bar charts for trend analysis.

Date and Filter Controls

Use the date selector (dropdown or date picker) at the top of each page to choose the reference period. Country or region filters narrow the data to a specific area. Query parameters are passed in the URL so views can be bookmarked and shared.

Alerts

The Alerts link visible on some pages (e.g., rainfall forecast) takes you to an alerts dashboard showing any active threshold violations for that module. See the Alert & Threshold System section of this guide for details.
